  • Donald Trump Kim Jong-un come togther for historic Ten things to know about the Singapore summit

North Korea leader Kim Jong Un understands that denuclearisation must happen "quickly", US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said today that there will be no sanctions relief for Pyongyang until the process is complete.

When President Donald Trump sat down to make the case for peace to North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un on Tuesday, he rolled out what amounted to a movie trailer starring the two leaders.

The 42-minute-long program, narrated by North Korea's most famous newscaster, Ri Chun-hee, was broadcast on state-run television Thursday, two days after the historic summit in Singapore and a full day after Kim returned home to his country's capital, Pyongyang.

Trump later told a news conference he would end joint U.S.

At the summit, Trump emphasized what North Korea has to gain by giving up its nuclear weapons and rejoining the global community - a subject he returned to on Twitter.

He said Pyongyang was committed to giving up its nuclear programme.

"At the same time, we believe North Korea's reasonable security concerns should be resolved".

Moon said his country will carefully consider the possibility of suspending the South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises, according to the press release.

Despite tensions, the Cold War-era allies have sought to mend ties recently, and Kim borrowed an Air China plane to travel to the landmark summit in Singapore.

Under such conditions, South Korea needs to flexibly change its military pressure in accordance with the Panmunjom Declaration, in which Moon and Kim agreed to build mutual trust after holding the third-ever inter-Korean summit on April 27 at the truce village of Panmunjom.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in Seoul on Thursday that "complete, verifiable and irreversible" disarmament of North Korea remains Washington's goal and that sanctions will remain in place, but admitted that implementing the deal reached in Singapore on Tuesday will be hard.

As per Tuesday's declaration, Pompeo is the key official on the United States side charged with implementing the broad-ranging, but vague agreement signed by Kim and Trump.

USA officials said it was unclear what types of training involving U.S. and South Korean troops might constitute "war games" Trump wants halted.

However, Kono said the government was not considering such a meeting at the moment and that high-level exchanges must resolve the issue of Japanese abductees held by North Korea. "It has been 25 years since the North Korean nuclear issue popped up and there has been many, many diplomatic efforts and consultations and the Six Party talks, and it didn't go anywhere".

She continued on: "The president has raised North Korea's human rights record and the oppression of the regime".

"It helps to promote and realise the denuclearisation of the peninsula and helps to provide the peninsula and the region real and lasting peace", Wang added. -South Korean exercises appeared off-limits under the new guidance.
