This story has been corrected to show the building is called UBS Plaza, not UBS Tower. The mammal was spotted by Tim Nelson, a Minnesota Public Radio reporter, who has been relentlessly tweeting about the progress in the raccoon's movements.

The raccoon, now a viral star, outside of the UBS Tower building in Minnesota. Perhaps the little rascal knows exactly what it's doing after all.

Opening the window to let the animal in seemed to be the solution, but the windows of the building are sealed shut, media reported.

By Tuesday afternoon, the St. Paul Fire Department had paid a visit to the ledge-lounging raccoon.

A raccoon has climbed more than 20 floors high on an office building in St. Paul, Minnesota.

"Any other measures we think would endanger him".

As the United States slept, a small raccoon who first captured the attention of Minnesota, and then the world, did something remarkable.

It then began a tentative descent before making its final bid toward the roof of the building, reaching the 305ft-high (93m) top on Wednesday.

According to the Star Tribune, animal control officials are trying to lure the woodland creature with food in hopes of bringing the racoon to safety. "We didn't see it and thought, 'It went away - that's great!'" Laurie Brickley told the publication.

As of 11 p.m., it had descended to a window ledge on the 17th floor, according to Minnesota Public Radio.
