  • Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump walk together during a break in talks at their historic summit in Singapore

That meeting in Dalian was seen as an effort by China to ensure that Beijing's voice was heard when Kim later met with Trump. Even before that, the Carter administration ignored North Korea's proposal for a summit.

Trump's Tuesday meeting with Kim produced a wave of United States concessions in exchange for vague, nonbinding promises from North Korea, but it did make nuclear war all but inconceivable at the present moment.

In a 2014 report, United Nations investigators said that 80,000 to 120,000 people were thought to be held in prison labor camps in North Korea.

In Pyongyang, North Korean state media heralded claims of a victorious meeting with the USA president; photos of him standing side-by-side with Trump on the world stage were splashed across newspapers.

Trump's claim that North Korea no longer poses a nuclear threat is questionable.

South Korea's presidential office said it needs to seek clarity on Mr Trump's intentions are after he said Washington will stop joint military exercises.

As part of the growing detente, the KCNA report also said that Kim had invited Trump to visit Pyongyang, an offer that the USA president had accepted.

But he said that was no longer the case, and everyone can "sleep well tonight". -South Korea joint military exercises that take place every year. No details of what those steps would be were given.

Kim and Trump invited each other to their respective countries and both leaders "gladly accepted", KCNA also reported. We have been talking about them. China, as North Korea's neighbor and most important trading partner, also could provide relief to Kim by throttling down sanctions enforcement on its own. The two sides promised to hold follow-up negotiations. "And when we look at the history of US-North Korean relations, there really have been lots of obstacles", Lee told Loud & Clear co-hosts John Kiriakou, Walter Smolarek and Brian Becker. "And when a reality show dictator meets with a reality show president, you don't make a peace agreement, you pitch a crossover episode".

"The United States is our ally, so the joint military drills are still necessary to maintain our relationship with the U.S.", said Lee Jae Sung, from Incheon.

While Trump claimed he'd reached a "very, very comprehensive" agreement with Kim, from the start, he and his team were vague about what actually occurred at the summit. "My meeting with Chairman Kim was honest, direct and productive".

But others said it's a great step forward for peace.

From the start of their meeting, Trump showered Kim with praise, calling him a "talented man" who "loves his country very much".

North Korea's official media brought a large number of reporters and camera operators to Singapore and they had access to Kim that was denied to media from elsewhere in the world. Otto Warmbier's parents were guests of the president and first lady at the State of the Union, where Trump described the "depraved character" of the North Korean regime and pledged to "honor Otto's memory with American resolve". Otto did not die in vain.

Warmbier's parents, Fred and Cindy Warmbier said they appreciated Trump's comments. Trump insisted that strong verification of denuclearization would be included in a final agreement, saying it was a detail his team would begin sorting out with the North Koreans next week.

"Kim Jong Un invited Trump to visit Pyongyang at a convenient time and Trump invited Kim Jong Un to visit the U.S.", the state KCNA news agency said.

Trump said he would "absolutely" invite Kim to visit the White House and is open to visiting Pyongyang, as well.

This question led to some of the most interesting exchanges during Trump's sprawling news conference after the signing with Kim. It's also unclear what significant changes could occur now that they seem to be moving toward more peaceful relations.
