  • Memphis Woman Arrested After Traveling With Children Inside of Pet Kennels

After the video hit the web, police announced on Facebook that they had arrested 62-year-old Leimome Cheeks and charged her with two counts of child endangerment.

They said they had charged Cheeks with two counts of Child Endangerment.

The video was filmed on Saturday evening by a concerned citizen, KTLA sister station WREG in Memphis reported.

Footage of the incident, which was sent to police by an anonymous bystander, shows the moment the woman let her grandchildren out of the kennels, which were placed in the back of her vehicle.

The children are OK, according to police, but the same can't be said for Leimome Cheeks.

Cheeks admitted to police that she kept the children in the cages while she was driving for about 35 minutes.

Temperatures in the vehicle reached upwards of 95 degrees and there was no air conditioning in the back of the Ford as the children rode from Whitehaven, Tenn.to Collierville, Tenn. -which is about a 25 mile drive, according to the affidavit.

Mrs Cheeks is due in court later on Monday.

"I'm just so sad for the babies".

Her neighbors in Whitehaven say they haven't seen her since her face showed up in the video. She's such a nice lady.

She was also seen talking on the phone outside of the hearing in video captured by WMC Action News.

An investigation has been launched by Children Services and Memphis Police.

The children said it was hot inside the kennels.

"I'm still shocked", neighbor Skylarr Blake also said, describing Cheeks as "such a nice lady".

A neighbor identified as Eugene Richmond stated to the media, "I think she needs some help".

According to the Commercial Appeal, Cheeks posted a $100 bond and was released Sunday.
