After this year's Trooping the Colour, it was time for Meghan Markle, now Duchess of Sussex, to cross another first off her list of royal of events: a balcony appearance at Buckingham Palace.

Guardsman Charanpreet Singh Lall marched among 1,000 British soldiers who took part in the Trooping the Colour parade.

Harry and Meghan married in May at Windsor Castle, Queen Elizabeth's home to the west of London, in a show of British royal pomp and ceremony watched by millions of television viewers across the world. It was not only these two ladies who flaunted blue dresses but the Queen herself on her 92nd birthday celebrations wore a blue dress.

At the very important celebration, Meghan opted for a custom Carolina Herrera ensemble that bared her shoulders and arms, which apparently is a no-no for royal women at the yearly event-at least until now.

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Prince Andrew, Duke of York during Trooping The Colour on the Mall on June 9, 2018 in London, England. The Queen also ditched the dark sunglasses she'd been wearing after undergoing cataract surgery last month.

Her procession was accompanied by a Sovereign's Escort of the Household Cavalry, made up of Life Guards and Blues and Royals, in their silver and gold breastplates and plumed helmets.

The ceremony has taken place for more than 250 years.

The day's proceedings closed with an RAF flypast, which was watched by members of the royal family from Buckingham Palace's balcony.

All eyes were on newly-weds Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, who made their first appearance together since apparently slipping away for their honeymoon last week.

Earlier, Markle arrived on Horse Guards Parade with her husband Prince Harry in a carriage, along with the Queen's cousin the Duke of Kent.

So far, it seems Meghan has impressed Queen Elizabeth.

There is a new addition to the annual Buckingham Palace balcony photo. It originates from traditional battle preparations, where flags were "trooped" - ie carried - slowly through the ranks so they could be seen by all soldiers, so they could recognise them during combat.
