Melania Trump to attend White House reception for Gold Star families

  • WASHINGTON- JULY 20 White House Deputy Chief of Staff Joe Hagin waves after he returned to the White House from Crawford Texas with U.S. President George W. Bush and first lady Laura

The First Lady joined President Trump for a reception welcoming families of service members killed in the line of duty.

However, a spokeswoman for Melania Trump says the US first lady won't attend the G7 leaders' summit in Charlevoix, Que., which starts Friday.

On May 14, 2018 First Lady Melania Trump underwent kidney surgery at Walter Reed Medical Medical Center in Washington D.C.

In a statement from her office after the event, Trump did not mention her time away from the White House's public schedule.

First lady of the United States has not been seen in public since mid May after she was admitted to a hospital for a benign kidney condition.

John Binder is a reporter for Breitbart News. The White House chose not to post any photos of Melania since her surgery.

"I wish that I didn't suspect that the prolonged, poorly explained public absence of Melania Trump could be about concealing abuse", Smith tweeted.

Dr. Ketan Badani, director of the Comprehensive Kidney Cancer Program at Mount Sinai Health System in NY, said last month that a longer hospital stay could indicate "a bleed". More than 40 Gold Star families from around the country were invited.

As Monday's event has made clear, however, rumours of the first lady's death have been greatly exaggerated.

The first lady's lack of recent viewings, prior to Monday's event, has created a storm of "where is she?" memes on the internet, and speculation on her whereabouts ran the gamut, from New York City to Palm Beach.

"Mrs. Trump is very strong and independent", Grisham said.

On May 30, an update on Melania Trump's Twitter account read, "I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I'm doing". But over the past half century, it has become the expectation that people know the basic narrative of the first lady's activities.

Melania and Grégoire Trudeau also participated in the meeting between their husbands at the White House last October.

The first lady has been to Canada once before, travelling to Toronto for her first solo foreign trip last September for the Invictus Games, where she represented her husband and met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau and their two eldest children.
