Donald Trump Again Tweets Regrets About Choosing Jeff Sessions

  • Key Republican Trey Gowdy defends FBI against Trump attacks

It wasn't the first time Trump has publicly criticized Sessions, dating back to previous year, when the former Alabama senator recused himself from the investigation into Russian activities during the 2016 presidential race.

President Trump says Deep State officials within the intelligence community were out to sabotage his presidential prospects, spying on him during the campaign.

A new report from The New York Times published on Tuesday illustrates how the relationship between Trump and Sessions devolved in the months after Sessions' recusal.

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), a conservative and chairman of the House Oversight Committee, told Fox News the Federal Bureau of Investigation acted appropriately when it used an informant to collect information on Trump's campaign.

Gowdy, a South Carolina Republican, made the comments while discussing Sessions' recusal of himself from the Russian Federation investigation. The congressman appeared on "CBS This Morning" Wednesday where he sympathized with Trump's frustration with the attorney general.

Two sources told Axios that Trump stopped short of ordering Sessions to undo his recusal, but rather told the attorney general he'd be a "hero" among conservatives if he did "the right thing" and reasserted oversight of the investigation. "I only want to see the documents", he said.

Trump's anger at Sessions has often prompted speculation in Washington that the US leader would fire him, or his deputy attorney general, Rod Rosenstein, who oversees the Mueller probe after Sessions recused himself from the oversight role.

Trump reportedly told Sessions he would be a "hero" for conservatives if he took control of the Russian Federation probe and began an investigation of Hillary Clinton.

Trey Gowdy, the SC congressman and chairman of the House oversight committee, was one of the Republicans who attended a classified Department of Justice (DoJ) meeting last week to view documents relating to the use of the confidential source.

"Damn, even people on Fox News are calling Trump out for this one", Noah said. But Wednesday's tweets "show that the subject is still very much on his mind, rekindling fears that he might choose to fire Sessions and derail Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe". Either there really is nothing at all to Spygate and Trump is just trying to undermine the Mueller investigation.

"Members of Congress, Democrat and Republican, are going to be informed a lot by their constituents".

CNN even pulled Fox News into the mix with a chyron proclaiming, "GOP's Gowdy Refutes Trump, Nunes, Fox "Spy" Conspiracy".
