  • Kim Kardashian Meeting With Trump to Discuss Pardoning Alice Marie Johnson

Kim Kardashian, the 37-year-old reality TV and pop culture icon, made an official visit to the White House on Wednesday, seeking a presidential pardon for a 62-year-old Alabama woman who is now serving a life sentence behind bars with no chance of parole for a first-time drug conviction.

And although it is unknown as to what was exactly discussed in the meeting, it is reported that Kim was invited to the Oval Office for the meeting with Trump by the president himself.

Brittany Barnett, Johnson's lawyer, told CBS News White House reporter Jacqueline Alemany they are grateful the Kardashian sister is using her platform to help Johnson acquire her freedom.

Kardashian West said she had been in contact with the White House on behalf of Ms. Johnson to bring "her case to the president's desk" and to lobby the White House to release her.

Wednesday is also Johnson's birthday, which Mrs Kardashian West noted in a tweet this morning. "I would say this, I don't think you should dress like you weigh 120 pounds".

"And just like hundreds of people who have come to know Ms. Alice Johnson or the injustice of her case, Kim is calling on President Trump to exercise his clemency power to right this wrong".

Kardashian West has said she has no doubt that Alice Johnson will lead a productive life outside of prison if granted clemency by Trump. "After all, you don't have to be a reality star to understand today's troubled criminal-justice realities".

According to her family and supporters, Johnson has been a model inmate who is active in many programmes, including work in the prison hospice.

"When Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on that bus (the same year that I was born - 1955)... that was a defining moment".

"I believe that history will record that Kim Kardashian had the courage to take a stand against human warehousing and was a key figure in meaningful criminal justice reform becoming a reality".

Kim Kardashian has been vocal about her dislike of Donald Trump in the past and recently distanced herself from Kanye West's pro-Trump comments on Twitter. His father, Charles Kushner, spent more than a year in a federal prison camp in Alabama on charges of tax evasion, illegal campaign contributions and witness tampering.
