Israel's military confirmed that it targeted an observation post, calling the attack retaliation for a bomb that had been placed next to the border fence overnight.

Israeli military tanks shelled the Gaza Strip on Sunday, killing at least two Palestinians.

Still, at least 116 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in the Gaza Strip since mass protests broke out on 30 March, according to newly released figures from the health ministry in the Hamas-run strip.

The army said the drone was found in the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council, in the northern Negev, "several days ago", and that it was flown over the border from Gaza with the intention to injure Israeli soldiers patrolling the area.

The other two terrorists stayed behind to put up a Palestinian flag and pitch a green tent upon which were written the words: "The March of Return".

The violent demonstrations were meant to end on May 15, but Hamas leaders have said they want them to continue.

The Israeli Air Force struck Hamas targets the southern Gaza Strip late Saturday evening.

It added that the strike was also in retaliation for repeated Palestinian attempts to damage the border fence and "security infrastructure" during ongoing border protests.

The Israeli soldiers used tear gas and live rounds to disperse the protesters.

No injuries were reported either from local sources or the IDF.

The demonstrations came to a head on May 14 when the U.S. moved its embassy to Jerusalem and at least 60 Palestinians were killed in clashes - nearly all of them Hamas members, the terror group has acknowledged.

Low-level demonstrations along the border have continued since protests peaked on May 14, when at least 61 Palestinians were killed as tens of thousands of Gazans protested the US transfer of its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

He also appealed to the worldwide community to pressure Israel to lift the blockade on the Gaza Strip and on global NGOs to provide protection to anti-siege ships.
