Whitney, which is directed by the Scottish film-maker Kevin Macdonald told Indiewire that it was Whitney's brother Gary Garland, who told Macdonald he had been sexually abused as a child by Dee Dee and believed Houston had also been molested.

Following a premiere screening of the upcoming documentary Whitney during Cannes Film Festival Wednesday, director Kevin Macdonald confirmed a childhood trauma revealed in the film.

"Her voice, I was totally knocked out", says music industry magnate Clive Davis, who aided Houston's meteoric rise to stardom. "I think it's when you see the film, you'll see she obviously played a big part in Whitney's life, but it's not the great key that unlocks who she is".

Garland-Houston said in the documentary that Warwick allegedly molested him and Houston while he was between the ages of seven and nine while the singer was a toddler.

So what do we know about Whitney Houston's allege abuser, Dee Dee Warwick?

"There were times when I looked up to God and I'd go, 'Why is this happening to me?' People think it's so easy and it's not". It was a woman'. She claims that Whitney confided in her that it was Dee Dee Warwick, her cousin.

Delia Juanita Warrick, known as Dee Dee Warwick, was an American soul singer.

Whitney she had a long and well-documented battle with substance abuse, having made a number of disheveled appearances in the years before her death that shocked her fans.

Houston's mother Cissy was unaware of the abuse.

On why Houston never told her mother, Jones said the late singer was probably "ashamed". She also tells filmmakers that the alleged abuse made Houston question her own sexuality and contributed to her late-life drug problems.

The documentary also revealed chilling details of alleged sexual abuse Houston suffered as a child. He said his sister was abused, too.

I met Nicole David, her longtime agent, who was incredibly close to her. "This was at the very end of filming, two weeks before we locked the cut".

Houston and Brown had one child together, daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown.

"Then somebody told me that they had spoken to Whitney about it and that's what she had said had happened to her, and she felt that that was the origin of her unhappiness".

Houston enjoyed huge success in the 1980s and 90s, selling more than 170million albums. A move that later on in his own memoir, Brown says, "I really feel that if Robyn was accepted into Whitney's life, Whitney would still be alive today".

Houston died in 2012, at the age of 48, drowning in a bath.

Brown tells the film that drugs had nothing to do with Houston's death, although the coroner said it was a contributing factor.
