  • At least four dead as blasts gunfire rock Jalalabad in Afghanistan

After several hours of fighting that sent plumes of smoke rising into the sky above the accounts office, Attahullah Khogyani, a spokesman for the provincial governor, said that Sunday's clash had ended with all the gunmen killed. "A number of attackers had entered the building".

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

This content is restricted to site members. Most have been in the capital Kabul, but in January, gunmen attacked an office of aid group Save the Children in Jalalabad, killing at least five people and wounding 25.

Qaderi said at least four attackers then stormed into the building with rocket-propelled-grenade launchers and AK-47 assault rifles.

He also added that the attack left at least forty two people wounded, including civilians, Customs Department workers, and security personnel.

It was the latest deadly violence to strike Afghanistan as terror groups step up attacks and US-backed Afghan forces intensify airstrikes and ground offensives.

April saw a series of attacks across the country targeting voter registration centers as the country gears up for long-delayed legislative elections due in October.

Security forces have cordoned off the area for precautionary measures.
