"Sweden has been a strong supporter of "Make in India" initiative from the beginning".

The forthcoming visit of Prime Minister Modi's visit to the UK will focus on enhancing India-UK tech partnership.

They agreed that a strong partnership can help spur innovations, economic growth, sustainable solutions and mutually beneficial trade and investments. "PM highlighted the various investment opportunities in India".

The two leaders also talked about improving people's quality of life by focusing on renewable energy, urban transport and waste management.

"Defence cooperation is the biggest pillar in our relations. We have now mutually made a decision to increase our cooperation this sector, particularly in the field of cyber security", the prime minister added.

Mr. Modi has also been reluctant to talk about a rape accusation against a state lawmaker from his party in India's most populous state, Uttar Pradesh, which is governed by the B.J.P.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India tweets frequently and considers himself a talented orator". Additionally a major funding boost was injected into the bilateral process when Mr. Löfven announced that "The Swedish government will kick start our Innovation Partnership by providing up to 50 million Swedish kronor (over $59 million) for innovation cooperation in the field of smart cities and sustainability".

It will cover co-operation across a wide spectrum, from the creation of effective innovation systems to the commercialisation of new technologies, the document said.

India and Sweden will co-host the India-Nordic Summit in Stockholm.

PM Modi along with his Swedish counterpart is scheduled to interact with business leaders of both countries to chart a future roadmap of co-operation in sectors like trade, science and technology, clean energy and smart cities.

Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Löfven met on 17 April and recalled their Joint Statement issued in Mumbai in 2016, welcomed progress so far on its implementation and reconfirmed their commitment to the Joint Statement as the overall political framework for cooperation.

Protests and support rallies are set to take place on Wednesday and later in the week, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarks on his second bilateral visit to the United Kingdom in three years, ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, with issues from sexual violence, the situation in Kashmir, violence against Dalits and religious minorities likely to figure prominently.

Breaking protocol, Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven received Modi at the airport here with a warm handshake.

Modi's next stop is London, where he plans to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

On his return journey from Britain on April 20, he will stop in Germany to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
