Chemical weapons were used by Syria's Assad regime last Saturday on Douma, a holdout east of Damascus later quit by rebels, Macron told France's TF1 television on Thursday.
Moscow, which offers military support to the Syrian regime, has warned of a possible Russian response to a USA attack. Dmitry Peskov added that it would have an "utterly destructive impact on the Syrian settlement".
But he repeated that he wanted to also avoid "an escalation". "Could be very soon or not so soon at all!" he said on Twitter. "I will support any response, including a military one, since what was committed in Syria is inadmissible and should not remain unanswered", Hollande told France Inter radio.
"We have proof that last week. chemical weapons were used, at least with chlorine, and that they were used by the regime of Bashar al-Assad", Mr Macron said, without offering details of any evidence.
France, the United States and their allies are considering a coordinated military response after accusing the Russia-backed Syrian government of being behind the attack. It prompted worldwide condemnation and the promise of action in response from U.S. President Donald Trump and Macron.
US President Trump, however, warned that Russia, Iran and Syria will have a "big price to pay" following the suspected chemical attack, saying his administration will soon be making "some major decisions" on Syria. She said Australia and France have a very deep connection already and it is an opportunity to further deepen security and economic ties.
US President Donald Trump is still weighing options for military action against Syria.
A watchdog agency, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, announced that it will send "shortly" a fact-finding mission to Douma, after receiving a request from the Syrian government and its Russian backers to investigate the allegations.
That attack in Duma, a rebel-held town in Syria's eastern Ghouta region, left dozens dead, including children.
Both the Syrian regime and its main global backers Russian Federation and Iran have denied responsibility for the alleged chemical attack and insist "there is a Western conspiracy" aimed at justifying military action in Syria.
Never said when an attack on Syria would take place.
Britain's Ministry of Defense refused to comment on reports that Royal Navy submarines armed with cruise missiles have been dispatched to within range of Syria.
"Whenever the Syrian army achieves victory in the field, some western countries rise their voices and intensify their movements in an attempt to change the track of events", Assad said, according to SANA.
