US 'will regret it' if it violates nuke deal: Iran

The currency speculation may worsen as May 12 approaches-that is the deadline set by Trump for his decision on whether to keep the USA in the nuclear deal, formally entitled the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). United States sanctions will resume unless Trump issues new "waivers" to suspend them on May 12.

"We will not be the first to violate the accord, but they should definitely know that they will regret it if they violate it", Rouhani said in a conference in Tehran marking National Nuclear Technology Day.

"The new U.S. President. has been trying for 15 months to break the JCPOA. but the structure of the JCPOA is so strong that it has not been shaken by such quakes", he said.

The U.S. president has called on European powers to "fix" what he says are the "terrible flaws" of the deal by that date.

According to Reuters, Iran promises to ramp up its nuclear program if the deal collapses, though many feel as though the deal has done little to diminish Iran's nuclear efforts anyway.

In honor of Iran's National Day of Nuclear Technology, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani delivered a speech in which he bragged about the country's nuclear achievements.

These comments are supposed to "warn" the USA and the other signatories to the nuclear deal against making changes to the deal, which at present largely benefit Iran and no other country.

Iran agreed to measures that bar its way to the development of a nuclear weapon in return for the signing of the nuclear deal and its removal of the most damaging economic sanctions, against areas such as oil exports and central bank activities.

"Iran's stance on chemical weapons is clear and we condemn any use of them against any target", Zarif added.

He gave no details on what countermeasures Iran could take.

The Iranian rial hit a record low against the US dollar for the second time in two months over concerns about Iran's economy, rattling businesses and prompting some currency dealers to suspend trading. The U.S. dollar jumped to as much as 58,000 rials on the open market in the capital Tehran, according to some reports.

"There are some profiteers in the market who want to see the market rise, the dollar keep going up", said Khosrow Abdi, a currency trader based in Tehran's main street for foreign-exchange dealing was quoted as saying earlier this year.
