Directly contradicting White House lawyers, Trump says he's considering firing Mueller

  • Republican US Representative from Ohio Jim Jordan questions former US Secretary of State and Democratic Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton as she testifies before the House Select Committee on Benghazi on Capitol Hill in Washington DC

President Donald Trump is calling special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into election meddling "an attack on our country" during a White House meeting with top military advisers.

"Today the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of NY executed a series of search warrants and seized the privileged communications between my client, Michael Cohen, and his clients,"Stephen Ryan, Cohen's lawyer, told the Times".

"So we'll see what happens", Trump concluded.

"Republicans and Democrats need to make clear that they will not allow President Trump or anyone on his behalf to interfere with or attempt to impede any of these ongoing and serious investigations". This was the basis for the warrant federal agents had when they investigated Cohen's office and seized various documents related to the porn star's hush money arrangement. We are getting some very good clarity on who is responsible for the attack.

Trump said last week that he was unaware of any payment by Cohen to Clifford just before the presidential election in 2016.

"If there's anyone in this country who thinks that this Department of Justice leadership is competent, is impartial and fair and committed to justice instead of a partisan result ... then they haven't been paying attention to anything that's been going on in the nation's capital", Dobbs said. The Times said Monday's Federal Bureau of Investigation raid on Cohen's records was apparently unrelated to the payment. The source, who has knowledge of talks between Mueller and the president's legal team, added that the raid "puts a fork in" the prospect of Trump agreeing to be interviewed by the special counsel.

The raid Monday that was directed by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III was a "disgrace" and a "pure and simple witch hunt", President Trump told reporters at the White House.

In October, Trump told reporters that he was not considering firing Mueller "at all". In July, she said twice the president had no intention of firing Muller, and that she had no reason to doubt Mueller was conducting a fair investigation.

Trump's comments renewed Democrats' concerns that he will fire Mueller before the probe is finished.

Michael Cohen, Trump's longtime personal lawyer, facilitated Pinchuk's donation, which was the largest one the foundation received in 2015.

Earlier this year, Mueller subpoenaed the Trump Organization for documents relating to the donation, made by Ukranian steel magnate Victor Pinchuk. Mueller is already examining Russian collusion in the 2016 election and possible obstruction of justice by Trump. Rosenstein then would decide whether or not to permit Mueller to proceed or to assign the matter to a different USA legal professional or one other a part of the Justice Division. We'll see what happens, but I think it's really a sad situation when you look at what happened.

"Even if their primary focus is the payment that was made to Stormy Daniels, they're going to be interested in more than that for purposes of a search warrant", said Lee Vartan, a former federal prosecutor.

And then the president seemed to go on to attack those carrying out the Russian Federation investigation, calling them "the most biased group of people" with "the biggest conflicts of interest I've ever seen".

There have been few indicators that Mueller was excited by investigating the fee, although.
