  • Suspect in critical condition after officer-involved shooting

A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Danville. As the officers were en route to the North Main Street location, the caller said that she had left that location in an attempt to escape her attacker. The 22-year-old woman relocated to her residence in the 200 block of Sunset Drive where she was followed by the male, who police say tried to force his way inside. He did not surrender to officers and SWAT was called to assist, police said. Acosta ignored the commands and accelerated rapidly towards Officer Mora.

Baron was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton before being taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston to be treated for his injuries. He walked away, police report, got into a vehicle and drove to a nearby wooded area.

They say Hobbs police were trying to serve a warrant on a homicide suspect at a residence.

Investigators said the suspect did not fire any shots, and his name has not been released. No officers were injured in this incident.

At the request of Danville Police Chief Scott Booth, and following standard protocol, the Virginia State Police is investigating the shooting.

The officer who fired his weapon had been an officer with the West Valley City Police Department for two years and was assigned to the department's patrol unit.
