Apple is developing touchless controls and curved screens for future iPhones

  • Apple reportedly plans iPhones with curved screens and non-touch gesture controls

Apple has unloaded a handful of helpful clips on the new product, and they can be found on the official iPad how-to page (linked below). This isn't the first time Apple has released instructional videos; it did something similar for the iPhone camera, for example. After Samsung, Apple could potentially use curved screens in its iPhones.

Bloomberg reported that Apple is still figuring out how iPhone users can control some tasks by moving a finger near the screen. From a tutorial on the new features in Notes to showing users how to manage multiple emails, Apple is working hard to show off all the available features to existing and potential future customers. Making history by popularising the mouse and then introducing the iPhone, Apple has proved itself again and again. The technology would have a sensing capability that would identify when the user's fingers were close to the screen.

On top of that, phones with screens that "curve inward gradually from top to bottom" are nothing new.

Both iDevice elements are "still in the early research and development stage", according to Bloomberg, which tipped a wait of at least two to three years.

Unlike the inflexible LCD screens covering older models, Cupertino's latest iPhone X embraced the organic light-emitting diode, which can be shaped or even folded. Apple is known to be the trendsetter for new technologies in the market.

Bloomberg says that these features are likely two years away from release.

In contrast, Samsung's recent flagship phones have been equipped with displays that curve downwards on the left and right side to create the impression of a display with no edge.

To access adequate OLED supplies for these new devices, Apple is expanding its sourcing from Samsung to also include LG Display, the people said.
