New Mutants and X-Men: Dark Phoenix Delayed

20th Century Fox has made a decision to push the Simon Kinberg-directed Dark Phoenix back until February 14, 2019, and give the November 2 spot it vacates to the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

On the New Mutants front, given the timing of the release, there's some speculation that film might forgo theatrical release altogether and instead wind up as one of the first original releases on Disney's new streaming service, provided all sales details are finalized.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants are reportedly undergoing significant reshoots, which may explain their recent release date delays.

New Mutants, starring another Game of Thrones actress, Maisie Williams, was scheduled for release on February 22, 2019 and now the movie has been pushed back all the way until August 2, 2019.

It's still unclear as to why the studio has chosen to delay the fourth film in its hugely popular and rebooted X-Men-verse, but it's more than likely an attempt to get the main franchise instalment right.

After testing the film, 20th Century Fox has elected to bring the film back into production ahead of its release. Boone delivered a cut that he liked, but Fox wants "New Mutants" to follow in the footsteps of "Deadpool" and "Logan" in terms of being aesthetically different than the flagship "X-Men" universe.

Fox released photos from Dark Phoenix earlier this year, and it's been confirmed that Hans Zimmer will be composing the score.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix's delay may be down to Fox wanting to ensure the best possible version hits cinemas.

The situation is a bit more hectic for "The New Mutants". The original version of the film was directed by Josh Boone. This doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in the movie for me. Studios shuffle release dates all the time, but these are two of Fox's most highly anticipated films on the docket, so many are rightly wondering exactly why these release dates are being pushed.
