They merely visit the machine to pick up and test drive the auto of their choice, which can be done in minutes.

Dozens of companies in China (and a few elsewhere) have created machines to vend everything from Instagram likes to live crabs.

A year ago in December, Alibaba inked an agreement with Ford Motor to explore ways to leverage mobility and redefine the automotive ownership experience in China. Ford and Alibaba built this vending machine for cars that you can try before you buy. On arriving at the vending centre, a verification of the identity with the customer's selfie will enable the automated system to deliver the vehicle at the ground floor, from where the test drive would commence.

Other than picking up and driving the test auto, the entire experience plays out through Alibaba's mobile e-commerce apps.

Geographically, Beverage Vending Machine Market report split global into several key Regions, with sales (K Units), revenue (Million USD), market share and growth rate of Beverage Vending Machine market for these regions, from 2012 to 2022 (forecast), covering: United States, Europe, China, Japan, South Korea, North America, India. All users have to do is pay a fee through Alibaba's Tmall app and then take a selfie through the app to confirm the booking.

The vending machine will be open to the public from Monday to April 23.

Test-drives are free for people with a "social credit score" of 700 or above. By making it fun. "In the meantime, we are opening our vehicle vending machine's infrastructure to the entire industry to leverage and enable their distributors, in hopes of helping upgrade the automotive sector as a whole".

"It will make buying cars as easy as buying a can of Coke", said Yu Wei, general manager of Tmall's automotive division.

"We are looking for ways to simplify customers' lives and give them the ultimate try-before-you-buy experience", said Dean Stoneley, vice president of marketing at Ford Asia Pacific, at a launch event. In 2016, Maserati sold 100 cars in 18 seconds during a flash sale on Tmall.
