"Pacific Rim: Uprising" is in its first week, "Black Panther" has spent six weeks at the box office.

By Sunday, the month's total box office intake was approximately $722.5 million, a 27 percent fall compared to the same period a year ago, with releases such as Pacific Rim Uprising and Tomb Raider failing to bring in audiences relative to their large budgets.

This is actually a drop compared to the original Pacific Rim movie that got $37.3 million back in 2013. In foreign territories, where the original "Pacific Rim" was more popular than in the US, the sequel is expected to collect around $122.5 million this weekend, with $65 million coming from China market.

MGM and Paramount's, a unit of Viacom (NASDAQ:VIA) new animated family film Sherlock Gnomes opened to $10.6-M from 3,662 theaters at #4. The film has now made $630 million domestically; it will have to reach about $676 million to beat "The Avengers", from 2012, to become the biggest superhero film of all time, adjusting for inflation.

The surprise faith-based hit "I Can Only Imagine", starring Dennis Quaid, continued to draw audiences in its second week, making $13.8 million.

Love, Simon suffered a similar drop in its second week to those films, earning just $7.8 million capping its two-week total around $23.7 million.

As for next week, Taraji P. Henson is taking revenge to a whole new level.

Directed by Andrew Hyatt, the film also stars Jim Caviezel, Olivier Martinez, Joanne Whalley, and John Lynch.

The animated film "Sherlock Gnomes" opened with $10.6 million for fourth place.

Pacific Rim Uprising is a 2018 American science fiction film, directed by Steven S. DeKnight (in his feature-film directorial debut) and written by DeKnight, Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder, and T.S. Nowlin.

Following I Can Only Imagine's success, biblical drama Paul, Apostle of Christ opened in line with estimates with US$5 million at 1,473 sites over Palm Sunday weekend. Bleecker Street and Soderbergh's Fingerprint Releasing are handling the movie, which reportedly cost a mere $1.5 million to make. It made $1.5 million from 27 screens, averaging out to an impressive $58,148 per location. Fox Searchlight, coming off its best-picture win at the Academy Awards for "The Shape of Water", carefully selected the opening-weekend theatres to cater to Anderson's die-hard fans. It received a B CinemaScore. But it has also sparked questions of cultural appropriation. Where available, the latest global numbers also are included.
