The ceremony was inaugurated with flag hoisting by Moazzam Ahmad Khan, ambassador of Pakistan.

BEIJING: A grand reception was held in Beijing to celebrate the 78th Pakistan Day and the 67th anniversary of establishment of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations by the Embassy of Pakistan on 23rd March.

The main feature of the day was the spectacular military parade held at the Parade Ground, Shakarparian. National Day messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out.

New-appointed air chief, Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, flew a fighter jet followed by several other squadrons of the Pakistan Air Force as a salute to the head of the state.

Earlier, the day began with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salute in the provincial capitals.

Pakistan Day marks adoption of the historic Lahore Resolution in 1940 that provided a framework for a separate homeland for Muslims in the Indian subcontinent.

Meanwhile, Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain, in his keynote address, warned India against "provocations". Contingents from the armed forces of Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Jordan also participated in the parade.

"With these actions, Pakistan's neighbour has put the regional peace at stake", he said referring to cross-border ceasefire violations in Jammu and Kashmir.

A presentation ceremony of corneas also took place, it said, adding that the corneas were presented by Sirisena to Abbasi for treatment of visually impaired persons in Pakistan.

He had also raised the Kashmir issue, saying, "the only solution to the dispute of Kashmir is providing the right of self-determination to the Kashmiri people, and Pakistan will continue to play its role".

Cautioning against exploitation, suppression of nations and interference into the internal affairs of any country by another nation, he said "Pakistan's foreign policy was about achieving permanent peace in the world and is based on non-interference into internal issues of other countries".

Talking about anti-terrorism operations in Pakistan, Hussain lauded the armed forces as well as the nation for eliminating terrorism from the country under operations Raddul Fasad and Zarb-i-Azb and announced a medal "Tamga-i-Azam" for those who rendered sacrifices for restoration of peace.
