A former Playboy model who alleged she previously had an affair with President Trump sued on Tuesday to be released from the legal agreement barring her from speaking on the relationship.

McDougal, 46, says she sold the rights to her story to the National Enquirer for $150,000 prior to the 2016 presidential election, but the supermarket tabloid never published it.

The New York Times reported on Tuesday that McDougal is suing a media company run by a friend of Trump's in order to get out of the 2016 nondisclosure agreement.

The then-45-year-old model was deciding between sharing her story with ABC and AMI, and AMI promised that in exchange for her silence, she would receive $150,000 - 45% of which went to Davidson - and the promise that she would appear on magazine covers for Men's Fitness and write columns for AMI.

McDougal's alleged affair with Mr. Trump took place over a period of 10 months between 2006 and 2007.

McDougal signed an agreement with American Media, Inc.

McDougal's lawsuit follows a similar legal fight from Daniels, whose highly anticipated interview on 60 Minutes about her supposed affair with the president will air this weekend. So tabloid giant American Media Inc.

"These revelations have placed Ms. McDougal at the center of a national controversy with broad implications for our democratic system", according to to the complaint.

AMI told the New York Times that it spoke with Cohen about McDougal's story, but only while trying to fact-check her story.

Now, McDougal seeks to void her contract with AMI.

Along with Daniels, this makes McDougal the second woman to fight a legal agreement mandating her silence so she can expose an alleged extra-marital relationship with Trump. Her team alleges that "AMI has told McDougal to say nothing about the relationship to reporters that contact her", and that "Each time that Ms. McDougal has taken steps to set the record straight, AMI has responded with threats and intimidation".

American Media has since published McDougal's picture on one cover and featured her in about two dozen columns, the Times reported.

Emails sent to the Trump Organization and Cohen seeking comment received no response by press time.

The timeline provided in the lawsuit shows that Davidson's email came as he and American Media were still hashing out the terms of the deal, which McDougal did not sign until the following day, August 6. Feeling pressure, she alleges, she signed the agreement the following morning.

"She was tricked into signing it while being misled as to its contents (including by her own lawyer, on whose advice she was entitled to rely)", the lawsuit reads. Davidson allegedly told McDougal that A.M.I. was going to present her with a million-dollar deal, and that $500,000 was going into escrow, but this was false, according the suit.
