  • Apple Announces Education-Themed Event on March 27 in Chicago

In an invitation email sent out to the press today, Apple announced it will be holding a media event on March 27.

The invitation doesn't provide details of what Apple has in store for the event, but the debut of iOS 11.3, a new Apple Books app, and new entry-level iOS hardware targeted at the education market are all possibilities.

It looks like Apple will have a first-quarter announcement after all.

The inky, stylized stroke on the event's invitation could also suggest new updates to the Apple Pencil, the company's one and only stylus built to be used with iPads.

We'll find out sooner than later, as we're less than two weeks away from Apple's "field trip".

This education event will be the next Apple event ahead of the Worlwide Developer Conference in San Jose from June 4-8 at the McEnery Convention Center. New iPads have been rumored for later this year as well, but it's unlikely that an education-focused iPad would include the new and expensive FaceID camera. Back in 2016, Apple released a new iPad Pro in the month of March that featured Apple Pencil support - a development that greatly increased the educational and creative potential of their popular tablet devices.

Apple introduced Swift Playgrounds and its Everyone Can Code curriculum in 2016, both of which are free.
