One student was killed and another teen was injured when a gun discharged at an Alabama high school Wednesday in what police described as an accidental shooting.

At this time, Acting Birmingham Police Chief Orlando Wilson said they believe that the shooting may have been accidental.

Congresswoman Terri Sewell tweeted, "I can not imagine the grief of the parents who lost their little girl today to gun violence at Huffman High School".

Lt. Peter Williston, spokesman for the Birmingham Police Department, said "no information will be released on that individual, pending a review of the case by the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office".

Wilson also noted that this school shooting was unlike those that have taken place nationwide.

One student has been killed at a high school in a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama, while another is in critical condition. "Our hearts are heavy".

The victim was given CPR at the scene before she was rushed to nearby UAB hospital along with the boy, who has reportedly been treated and released, before facing questioning by police.

Woodfin joined the news conference and said the deceased student would have turned 18 in about 30 days and was a senior "who had aspirations and dreams to be a nurse".

"We have a lot of unanswered questions", Wilson said. Wilson did confirm metal detectors were in place and functioning in the school. "There are so many unknowns at this time".

A day before she would die, the beauty shared a chilling post that read, "Thank u god in advance for what's about to happen".

"The magnitude of this event causes us to pause", said Superintendent Lisa Herring.

School official confirmed the shooting did not come from "someone from the outside came into the school", according to ABC.

Some of those students actually witnessed the shooting this afternoon.

Gov. Kay Ivey also offered her prayers to Arrington's family as tributes poured in on social media. "I can't imagine what those children have gone through, not just in Huffman High School but all over this state", state Sen.

Alabama lawmakers have proposed multiple measures in response to last month's killings of 17 people at a Florida high school. Democrats would limit or ban the sale of assault weapons.
