  • Man who stabbed Lokayukta Vishwanathan Shetty at his cabin in Bengaluru on Wednesday

Lokayukta Shetty was stabbed in Bengaluru but was immediately admitted to the nearby Mallya Hospital in haste. "It's #GoondaSidduSarakara. Home minister are you there", he said in another tweet tagging state home minister Ramalinga Reddy.

Hours after Lokayukta Justice Vishwanath Shetty, his relative in Udupi expressed serious concerns over security and said that if an official like the Lokayukta could be attackd in his office, how could ordinary people feel safe.

"I am concerned about the security provided to the Lokayukta office", Justice Hegde told NDTV outside a private hospital where Justice Shetty was being treated after being stabbed five times today in his office.

After being stabbed, Justice Shetty, 74, fell to the floor bleeding.

Reports also said the metal detectors placed at the entrance of the Lokayukta office were found non-functional, which could probably have allowed the attacker to smuggle in a knife without being detected.

According to the Police, the accused Tejas was summoned by the Lokayukta for questioning. "Doctors who are treating him have said prima facie he is out of danger", he said.

"One person attempted to murder the judge".

"The accused has been taken into police custody and is being interrogated".

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited the hospital.

"A gunman was standing guard outside Shetty's chamber and the CCTV is also installed, Siddaramaiah said, adding, ".

It was not clear if Justice Shetty dealt with Sharma's case as there are several Lokayuktas. "But the case was dismissed after due process in December", Kumar said.

A retired High Court judge, Justice Vishwanath Shetty took over as the Karnataka Lokayukta in January past year.

After the incident, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) blamed the ruling Congress for a "collapsed" law and order situation in the state. It is time for them to go from Karnataka.

The BJP has been held multiple rallies across the state including the "Karnataka Suraksha Yatre" and "Bengaluru Rakshisi Yatre" to corner the Siddaramaiah government on the issue of law and order.
