The Pentagon's investigation into the deadly Tongo Tongo ambush in Niger that left four U.S. soldiers and five Nigerien allies dead has revealed some disturbing findings.
An investigation into the incident was completed by the U.S. Africa Command and the report is now being reviewed by U.S. Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, according to Manning.

The Twitter user claimed that some of the pictures had been taken by one of the soldiers caught in the ambush and ISIS captured the images after the soldier was killed, according to Military Times. The remains of three soldiers were found the day of the attack.
The video reportedly includes footage allegedly filmed by one of the soldiers' helmet cameras, showing three us troops on the run from the terrorists, having few resources to retaliate against dozens of jihadists using machine guns and grenades.
It is still unknown why the video, which was released on messaging app Telegram, was still unpublished until now.
According to reports, the military investigation into the Niger attack concludes the team did not get required senior command approval for their risky mission to capture a high-level Islamic State militant.
The video begins with images of an alleged pledge of commitment to IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi by members of the al-Qaeda-linked, Sahel-based group Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), and then seems to suggest that the attack was made by IS militants. The footage shows the firefight between the soldiers and the militants continuing until the soldier wearing the helmet-cam is killed. Then, the footage shows the jihadists surrounding him and shooting at point-blank range.
The Pentagon on Monday said it was aware of the video. The results are expected to be released this month.
AFP has published a heavily redacted version of the footage.
The disturbing clip, which ends before the soldiers are killed, shows the men using a vehicle and smoke flares as cover as they exchange fire with the extremists.
"Knowing that they were asked to try and complete and execute this type of mission with that type of equipment, I just could not believe it", Republican Congressman Marc Veasey told CBS news.
