  • Why 'Three Billboards' and 'Call Me by Your Name' leave this theater critic cold

Amongst the frontrunners at this year's Oscars are The Shape of Water and Get Out.

"I don't remember a year with so much uncertainty". It is such an effortlessly ideal slice of life film that will be around far after this awards season noise comes to an end.

Who will win: There's no doubt about it, this year is tough to predict. With equality and women's rights continuing to be at the forefront of conversations coming out of Hollywood, here is a look at the best empowerment speeches delivered by women at the Oscars. That, and it did more to re-energize genre filmmaking than anything in a decade. He said, "This movie, lovely and a little disturbing, has a feel of film greatness to it".

Kaluuya is also nominated in the best actor category - against fellow Brit Gary Oldman, for his transformation into wartime prime minister Sir Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. But if there's a moment where I.have something serious to share, then I will. But I'll say Day-Lewis is simply the best there is.

On the other side of the coin, Denzel Washington picked up a surprise eighth nomination for acting, expanding his own record as the most-nominated black actor in Oscars history. This is Frances McDormand's year, plain and simple. She's up against a police chief (Woody Harrelson) battling cancer whose health is deteriorating faster than doctors expected and a racist officer (Sam Rockwell) who goofs off at times because the chief protects him not only as a boss but as a father figure.

Should Win: The most deserving is Ronan, who's perpetually playing a jumble of emotions, a lot of them contradictory, at once.

There was wide, but not total agreement that "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" will take the night's top award.

Golden said he is "pulling for long shot Willem DaFoe for his strong performance in 'The Florida Project, ' a wonderful film about children at risk". He makes every moment he's in memorable, whether he's escorting a suspicious character off of the property of a low-rent motel on the outskirts of Orlando, or just trying to count the rent money. It was amusing. It moved.' I don't want to see people cracking their necks. The first ever African American Female was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. Previous year saw Ava DuVernay's 13th was nominated for Best Documentary Feature, and I maintain to this day that it should have won.

Who should win: "Call Me By Your Name" was my favorite film of 2017 so I would like it to win this one.

Should Win: I'd cast my non-existent vote for Metcalf, in her first film in nearly a decade. Now in its sixth year, the Oscar Pop! challenge is one of their designers' favorite ways to experiment with new styles and see what's possible with Shutterstock content.

Score: "The Shape of Water". Many predictions for the Oscar winners stem from an overwhelming sense that whatever film dominates previous awards shows (the SAG Awards, Golden Globes, etc.) will more than likely be the victor, though this isn't always the case. Nolan made a masterpiece of suspense like we've never seen before.

Again, three of our four experts agreed, choosing del Toro. Anderson's impeccable comedy? Gerwig's richness of lived-in detail?
