Jennifer Lawrence Says She Dropped Out of Middle School to Pursue Acting

Lawrence told interviewer Bill Whitaker that she knew she wanted to pursue acting after struggling in school.

"I dropped out of middle school", she says. "I don't technically have a GED or a diploma", she shares.

"I realized that there was a difference between consent and not and I showed up for the first day and I did it and I felt empowered", Lawrence said. (It was) something that I could be confident in and I didn't want to let it go...

Late previous year, she said it was something that she was still processing, however, she told "60 Minutes" correspondent Bill Whitaker that she ended up feeling "empowered" doing the nude scene in the movie. She truly proved her point and said the instance is a mere "creation of controversy over silly innocuous things such as what I choose to wear or not wear, is not moving us forward". "Even friends, for many years, were not as important to me as my career from the age of 14".

At 14, it might sound insane to listen to a child who is asking to drop out of school, but Lawrence's parents gave her the benefit of the doubt, and it paid off.

In a post on Facebook, Jennifer said the comments were a "distraction" from the real issues women face and the Versace dress with a thigh-high split was her choice to wear.

Lawrence has starred in many popular movies, including the Hunger Games films.

"I never felt smart". "They gave her a dress to wear, a dress they wouldn't want covered in a coat". Looking at new photos of Jennifer Lawrence at a cast photo call Tuesday for Red Sparrow makes that abundantly clear. "I wanted to forge my own path".

Lawrence, who stars in the upcoming thriller "Red Sparrow", says she was out of place in a classroom setting, but found her comfort zone in acting.

Jennifer Lawrence's 60 Minutes interview will be broadcast on Sunday, February 25 at 7pm ET/PT.
