  • Israel forces launch manhunt for Palestinian suspect 'who stabbed settler' in Ariel

In an apparent search for his attacker, Israeli forces raided the West Bank city of Nablus late Tuesday, sparking confrontations that left a Palestinian dead.

Khaled Walid Tayeh, 22, from Iraq al-Tayeh near Nablus, succumbed to his wounds on Tuesday after being shot in the chest, the staff at al-Najah Hospital told Palestinian news agency Wafa.

A 34-year-old security guard was lightly wounded early Wednesday morning in a stabbing attack at the entrance to the Israeli settlement of Karmei Zur in the West Bank.

The identity of the dead man did not match that of the suspect given by Israeli authorities as the stabber.

At least 22 Palestinians and two Israelis have died since the December 6 announcement.

Hamas leaders urged the Palestinians to start an "uprising" or, in Arabic "intifada" in response to what they view as a "flagrant violation of global law".

"During the activity, a violent riot was instigated as approximately 500 Palestinians hurled rocks, fire bombs and explosive devices and fired live rounds at IDF (Israel Defence Forces) soldiers, and in addition the rioters built rock barriers", a military statement said.

Israeli forces had been hunting for the assailants since the murder, with roadblocks and checkpoints set up following the attack. On Monday, a Palestinian reportedly stabbed a settler at the entrance of the Ariel settlement near Salfit and managed to escape.

Jarrar, who Hamas described as a commander, was the leader of the terrorist cell responsible for the killing of a rabbi, Raziel Shevach, last month.

The Israeli army frequently carries out wide-ranging arrest campaigns in the West Bank on the pretext of searching for "wanted" Palestinians.

Israeli soldiers were seen after five hours transferring the body to an anonymous place and leaving behind them destroyed chambers, spent bullet casings, cloths of Jarrar, food and a the Holy Quran that was gifted to Jarrar by his father who was also killed by Israel in 2002 in Jenin.
