  • Rajouri ceasefire violation ‘Talk to Pak or go for war

A day after a young captain and three soldiers were killed in heavy shelling by Pakistani forces in Rajouri district, Army vice-chief Lt-General Sarath Chand on Monday warned of strong retaliatory action to avenge the losses.

Official sources said the Pakistani army opened unprovoked fire on the Army's 15 J&K Light Infantry posts in the Bhimber Gali sector on Sunday.

The Indian army claims Pakistan violated the line of control ceasefire 868 times previous year, up from 228 instances in 2016, and 152 violations in 2015.

He said in another ceasefire violation in Bandi Chacian Sector one Army Jawan namely Sepoy Kishore Kumar and two civilians including a minor namely Yaseen Arif and a girl namely Gulnaz Akhter sustained injuries. He also said the Pakistan Army is supporting infiltration by terrorists along the border.

When the House met again, the state's Parliamentary Affairs Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri made a statement supporting a dialogue between New Delhi and Islamabad to restore everlasting peace in the region.

Four Indian soldiers were killed by Pakistani army forces along the border with Indian-administered Kashmir and Pakistan, according to Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, deputy commissioner of Rajouri.

Reports are coming that those killed were identified as Captain Kapil Kundu, 22, Rifleman Ramavatar, 28, Rifleman Subham Singh, 22 and Havilder Roshan Lal, 42.

Pakistan's "foolishness" will cost them, Ahir stressed. Indian troops retaliated strongly, they added.

These exchanges, the worst between the two in more than a decade, resulted in the death of four Indian soldiers over the weekend along the 776km "line of control" that divides Kashmir between the neighbours. "Pakistan has been violating ceasefire along the LoC". The Pakistani troops also had resorted to mortar shelling in Nowshera and Keri sectors also the same night.

Many noted that there have been 240 incidents of ceasefire violations along the LoC and the International Border in a little over a month this year, which is more than the violations in all of 2015 and 2016 at 152 and 228, respectively.
