  • Nassar Is Sentenced on Three More Charges of Sexual Abuse

Nassar spent the past several weeks in MI courtrooms listening to some of the hundreds of women who said he sexually abused them over the past 25 years. The case focused on sexual assaults at Twistars, a gym for elite gymnasts in Eaton County, Michigan. After serving that sentence, he'll spend 40 to 175 years in prison for his crimes in Ingham and Eaton County.

Monday's court proceeding in MI marked the end of the current criminal cases against Nassar and caps an extraordinary outpouring from more than 200 ex-patients who presented impact statements during nine days of hearings.

Dr. Nassar, in a final statement, said that he was sorry, and that the words of the young women and parents "impacted me to my innermost core". With that being said, I understand and acknowledge that it pales in comparison to the pain, trauma, and emotions that you all are feeling.

They blame the silence and inaction of both MSU and USA Gymnastics for enabling Nassar to become perhaps the worst known sexual predator in American sports history.

Its longtime president, Lou Anna Simon, resigned last month, and the board of trustees voted unanimously to name John Engler, the former governor of MI, as its interim president.

When taken together, the two MI sentences add up to a minimum of 80 years in prison, and a maximum of 300 years.

However, after he was caught with tens of thousands of images of child pornography and accused of molesting a family friend starting when she was six years old, Nassar pleaded guilty in all his cases. "I can't imagine that", the judge said, via The Associated Press. He earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 1985 from the University of Michigan and earned his medical degree from Michigan State University in 1993. "I realize that it does not end the emotional and physical suffering he has caused", Judge Janice Cunningham said in a Charlotte, Michigan courtroom after imposing the maximum sentence under a plea agreement.

Nassar admitted penetrating three girls with his hands when he was supposed to be treating them for injuries.

He said "everybody had rights", including Nassar. Shortly after that announcement, however, he was suspended by USA Gymnastics.

All throughout last week, Nassar faced dozens of his alleged victims as they rallied together to list off the traumatizing abuse they endured while in the ex-doctor's care.

"This was the first time I heard of Larry Nassar and his reputation", the former gymnast said in court Wednesday.

The investigation ultimately cleared him of misconduct, and Nassar returned to abusing patients.
