  • Hamas announces death of founding member who 'accidentally shot himself'

Senior Hamas member Imad al-Alami succumbed to his wounds from a gunshot to the head three weeks ago.

Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum stated that al-Alami injured himself while checking his weapon.

Of course, while the claim is he died death by klutz, the suspicion remains that he was killed by one of his own.

The Palestinian Interior and National Security Ministry in Gaza, at that time, confirmed that investigations proved that al-alami had accidentally shot himself in the head while inspecting his personal weapon.

Imad Khaled Namik Al-Alami was born in Gaza City on 16 February 1956.

Al-Alami was involved in most of the major decisions made by Hamas over the years.

Other reports suggested that the incident may have been a suicide, with Al-Alami suffering a serious illness.

"On Tuesday, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem reported that Al-Alami had succumbed to his wounds, dying in Gaza City" s Shifa Hospital.

He was based in Syria when the group was headquartered in Damascus, where he served as the main point of contact for Hamas relations with Iran and its proxies. In the early 1990s, he was Hamas' chief envoy to Iran, before returning to the Gaza Strip in 2012 after a 20-year exile.

After the 2014 Israel-Hamas war, he traveled to Turkey for treatment for an injury in which he lost a leg. Hamas said he was wounded in the war.
