Emotional support peacock denied entry on United flight out of Newark

This unidentified traveler brought her absolutely enormous "emotional-support" peacock to the airport, claiming that the majestic bird had his own ticket for a United Airlines flight, according to a report from Fox News. The report said the woman offered to pay for a second seat for the peacock, claiming she had a right to bring it on the plane as her emotional support animal.

Dexter arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport last week alongside his owner, a Brooklyn artist named Ventiko, ready to jet set to Los Angeles.

According to the airline Dexter didn't meet the criteria to travel for several reasons including, size and weight.

This incident is the latest version of a growing issue for airlines; people bringing emotional service animals on board. It was unclear if the passenger and peacock made it to their destination.

According to Live and Let's Fly, the woman said the peacock was an emotional-support animal, allowed to fly for free.

A signed document confirming the animal is trained and can behave for the duration of flight will also need to be presented prior to boarding.

United told Fox News that the peacock's human companion bought it a ticket and brought it to the airport despite being told three times over the phone that the bird would not be allowed aboard. United Airlines said in a statement that it was reviewing its policies to better balance the protection of its employees and customers with the needs to accommodate passengers with disabilities.

"I'm not kidding, this woman is wrangling her peacock into the airport", another woman can be heard saying over the video. Other "unusual animals" (with the exception of snakes, reptiles, ferrets, rodents and spiders, which are not permitted due to safety and/or public health concerns) may be accepted as an emotional support animal on a case-by-case basis.

The incident follows Delta Air Lines' announcement that it would impose tighter regulations for passengers who attempt to travel with service or emotional-support animals. The new rules require proof that support animals are well trained and have all their vaccinations, as well as having a doctor sign that the support animal is necessary for that objective.
