  • New privacy options will be seen in upcoming Windows 10 releases

The latest Windows 10 Insider Preview Builds feature options to view the telemetry information sent to Microsoft and if required, delete them from the computer. The new features and fixes are limited to Windows Insiders for the time being, but the notes say the new stuff will be part of Redstone 4, the next big Windows 10 update. Soon you'll be able to see the diagnostic data Microsoft collects from Windows and what it's doing with it. Hopefully, this will (at least slightly) improve the adoption of Windows 10 in enterprises working with highly sensitive data.

Device Connectivity and Configuration data collects details about the capabilities of a device, attached peripherals, and network information.

Product and Service Performance data that show device health, performance and reliability data, movie consumption functionality on the device and device file queries.

"It's important to note that this functionality is not meant to capture user viewing or, listening habits", Microsoft said.

In addition to these, Microsoft further brings the updated Microsoft Privacy Dashboard, which will let you, 'see and manage more data associated with your Microsoft account.' It has been updated to the new page named Activity History. Users can also moderate the data that is being shared with the company, device or browser.

With this, the users will be able to view and search all diagnostic data in the cloud that's related specifically to their device.

The viewer is accessible by navigating to Settings Privacy Diagnostics & feedback.

Microsoft is building a lightweight, "modern" version of Windows 10 for laptops, 2-in-1s and desktops called Polaris, which will be built entirely on the Universal Windows Platform (UWP), Windows Central reports. Here, the company will now provide a news feed-like view of all the data it collects as you search on Bing, talk to Cortana and use other Microsoft services where you are an authenticated user.

There is some usage data collected, specifically pertaining to the apps and services you use, but not actual content. Windows may also get data about which applications you install and your device update history. Researchers at the Dutch Data Protection Authority, who earlier found that Windows 10 violated Dutch privacy regulations, had complained back in October that Windows 10 didn't provide users access to the actual telemetry data sent back to Microsoft.
