Tillerson sees progress in fixing Iran cope with Europeans

"The Foreign Secretary emphasised that the Iran nuclear deal is working, and that the United Kingdom would work closely with US, European and global partners to tackle Iran's disruptive behaviour in the region", a Foreign Office spokesperson said.

Both Tillerson and Johnson said they would examine Iran's ballistic missile program, which was not part of the 2015 accord.

The U.S. official said that Tillerson will be discussing the U.S. military presence in Poland, which has hosted U.S. and other allied troops following Russia's 2014 seizure of Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula and its backing of armed separatists in eastern Ukraine. His explanation was met by skepticism from many who noted Trump's possible visit was a source of controversy in Britain with some politicians saying he was not welcome and should not come.

The top U.S. diplomat later met with counterpart Boris Johnson and Prime Minister Theresa May, speaking of the need to reset the relationship between the historic allies.

But earlier this month, Trump vowed to stop waiving USA sanctions unless the Europeans agreed to strengthen its terms by consenting to a side deal that would effectively eliminate provisions that allow Iran to gradually resume some advanced atomic work. "We think we can do that together", he said. "We'll do it when the time is right", Reuters reported.

The trip comes amid behind-the-scenes negotiations over the fate of the landmark agreement to curb Iran's nuclear program in exchange for easing crippling worldwide sanctions targeting Tehran. No date has been set, however, amid concerns from the White House about the level of protests against Trump.

Johnson claimed the special relationship 'is a swollen throbbing two way transatlantic pipeline of jobs and goods and services - assisted by what is unquestionably a strongly performing U.S. economy.

Iran is expected to dominate talks between Tillerson and allies.

Number 10 said Tillerson had also underlined the "special relationship" at a meeting with the PM and Britain's national security adviser Mark Sedwill at Downing Street earlier in the day. "Sometimes we forget about the importance of our own relationship", Tillerson said at a news conference about the historical bond between the the USA and Britain. We treasure this relationship. "I treasure Boris' relationship with me personally", he said.

'We spend a lot of time talking about the world's problems.

"They discussed the continuing depth and breadth of the special relationship", a spokesperson said.

Tillerson was scheduled to join Trump in Zurich and Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum and meetings with world leaders before wrapping up his trip in Poland.

At a regular briefing of journalists on Monday, May's official spokesman said he expected the prime minister to tell Tillerson the United Kingdom was "firmly committed" to the Iran nuclear deal and "also to working with our allies to counter Iran's destabilizing regional activity".
