Atlanta, GA; Austin, TX; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Columbus, OH; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Indianapolis, IN; Los Angeles, CA; Miami, FL; Montgomery County, MD; Nashville, TN; Newark, NJ; New York City, NY; Northern Virginia, VA; Philadelphia, PA; Pittsburgh, PA; Raleigh, NC; Toronto ON; and Washington D.C.

Amazon's (AMZN) short list of cities that could be home to its second headquarters leaves more than 200 municipalities disappointed.

Boston was the only New England metropolitan area to make the cut. He said if Amazon didn't choose NEPA, the process would be invaluable when another company came along to be courted. The giant, Seattle-based online retailer winnowed down the list from 238 candidates.

Failing to garner the state's official endorsement, Somerville chose to go it alone.

"We will continue to use the proposal we put together as a blueprint for growth".

"I'm sure there will be some blowback", says Edward Jones' Olson.

The borough's Amazon proposal was centered on a 22-acre tract of property at the former landfill, a portion of which fronts on Route 206.

Halifax Mayor Mike Savage announced he meant to display a banner in his city reading "Go Toronto". "A project of this magnitude will create many opportunities, and, if Virginia is selected, we expect Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads will benefit". "It sounds like they're describing Somerville", Driver said.

Amazon is expanding from Seattle and has narrowed the list of places it is considering for its second headquarters to 20 places. Retail and/or residential development is also planned for the site.

Even though the other 218 cities weren't chosen for consideration, Amazon said to not feel down.

Jon Barela, CEO of the Borderplex Alliance; Davin Lopez, CEO of the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance; and Jerry Pacheco, president of the Border Industrial Association, said their respective Amazon proposals brought global attention to this region that could help in recruiting companies to the area in the future.

In the first round of bidding, cities offered significant and sometimes outlandish perks for Amazon.

Last year, Amazon received bids from 238 cities and regions across 54 states, provinces, districts and territories across North America.

"This is a long-term disaster for Canada", the Globalive Capital chairman told BNN in an interview Thursday.

"Like all major Northeastern industrial cities, we saw tough times".

"It was great", he said.

"Newark is not a charity case".

The company disclosed that it was considering boosting investment in Canada just a day after Apple's said it would boost investment in the United States. They said inquiries made to Amazon immediately after its original announcement were met with interest. "It shouldn't be that way. We are working hard to address these challenges, but we suspect they factored heavily in Amazon's decision to look elsewhere".

Gallagher said Somerville's entry in the sweepstakes may pay dividends in other ways.

The biggest selling point, however, could be the ability to attract talent from overseas.
