 MAIN MAN Harry Kane

A brace against the Saints means Kane now has 55 goals at his disposal which is one more than Lionel Messi, who scored his 54th against Real Madrid over the weekend.

At only 24 years old, as Kane closes in on one of Shearer's previously insurmountable records, it seems entirely possible if not likely that England's newest sensational striker, with 93 Premier League goals to his name and seven hat tricks, will break at least one of Shearer's records before he's through.

The Spurs forward netted his 37th, 38th and 39th league goals of 2017 - beating Alan Shearer's haul of 36 set during his Blackburn years in 1995.

His fans in England were ecstatic with his performance and when Kane slid on his knees on the Wembley pitch after the most recent match fans chanted "Harry Kane: he's one of our own".

"I want to congratulate Harry Kane, it's a massive achievement for him, well deserved", said the Argentinian coach.

But Kane wasn't happy to settle for that milestone and he scored twice more to claim his eighth treble of the year. "When I played for Newcastle for 10 years I had offers before and during, but I wanted to stay at my club".

Kane's year got even better still soon after, scoring a second goal just over six minutes before half time.

Kane's latest goals came from a header and two left footed shots and as the Guardian put it, he "terrified Southampton every time he picked up possession".

From the start he looked lively, beginning the move for Kane's second with a great through ball to Son.

Mousa Dembele partners Eric Dier in central midfield, while Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Heung Min-Son line up behind star striker Harry Kane.

Tottenham temporarily climbed back into the top four following an impressive 5-2 victory over the out of form Southampton.

"He has worked so hard on his game after many loan spells away from Tottenham and it's great to see that work pay off with all his goals in recent seasons". "I'm anxious when you don't create chances though", he said.

"We will do whatever is necessary to try to win the game", Mauricio Pochettino said eventually, probably wondering why anyone would think of withdrawing a striker who is performing so consistently.

Tottenham Hotspur host Southampton for their final Premier League clash of 2017 on Tuesday and the lineups for the clash at Wembley Stadium have been revealed.
