  • Blackcaps win more important than personal achievements - Trent Boult

Trent Boult took a career-best 7-34 after Henry Nicholls had smashed an unbeaten 83 as New Zealand thrashed the West Indies by 204 runs on Saturday to win the second one-day global and clinch their three-match series with a game still to play.

With the kind of firepower that West Indies boast, some degree of application from the batsmen could help them challenge New Zealand for the first time on the tour.

Boult reduced West Indies to 52 for 4 and their hopes of a fightback were effectively put to rest when fast bowler Lockie Ferguson picked up a further three wickets in two overs.

Adept at working the ball into gaps for twos and threes, Nicholls showed he's more than capable of finding the fence when needed, belting seven fours and two sixes on Saturday. West Indies had a dismal start to their chase of the 326-run target set by the Kiwis.

New Zealand's bowlers then played their part beautifully with Trent Boult taking a career best 7 wickets in a man of the match performance.

Nicholls and Astle's powerful hitting enabled New Zealand to post 129-1 in the final 15 overs.

Even though Neil Broom fell shortly after for six runs, Worker and Ross Taylor steadied things with a 58-run stand, during which Worker brought up his fifty.

Stand-in captain Tom Latham was caught behind off the bowling of West Indies captain Jason Holder for 20, while Taylor went on to make 57 off 66 balls, which included five boundaries, before he suffered the same fate as Latham. Once again, the Blackcaps are the favourites to win this game, but we could suggest not to completely ignore the Windies players for this game as they can cause some impact.

"The way Trent bowled was remarkable", added stand-in skipper Tom Latham.

Ashley Nurse (27) provided some resistance but the Windies were comprehensively beaten heading into the third and final ODI on Boxing Day.

Then speedster Lockie Ferguson struck with two wickets in two balls in the 16th over. We bowled reasonably well but let ourselves down in the last ten overs.

"If I could pin it down to anything it was a little bit of movement in the first spell with the new ball", Boult said. The intensity in white-ball cricket is more than Tests because the batsmen want to take you on.

"We knew if we took it nice and deep and with the big nature of the ground, but also the breeze to the short side, we could try and take advantage of that as best we can and I think we did". "We've got a quiet team lunch planned for Christmas".
