  • Abbas confirms Abu Dis offered as Palestinian capital

The US ambassador to Israel David Friedman earlier this week blamed Palestinian authorities for the failure of peace efforts, after an Israeli settler was killed in occupied West Bank.

Trump has said that achieving an agreement would be the "deal of the century" but Abbas was scathing on Sunday, saying: "The deal of the century is actually the slap of the century, and we will return it".

Since US President Donald Trump controversially recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital, to the outrage of the Arab world, rocket fire from Gaza has barraged Israel's southern communities.

Mahmoud Abbas, who leads the Palestinian Authority, and the PA's leading Fatah faction, called the two-day meeting in order to form a strategy to deal with the USA decision to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

In a statement, the Committee called on the global community to hold an worldwide conference under the auspices of the United Nations for the assurance of the establishment of the Palestinian state with its capital as East Jerusalem. And we have now said "no" to Trump and others.

"We said no to Trump", Abbas said. Among the demands, that might be put forward by Washington, is the revival of Palestinian-Israeli talks.

Palestine's official WAFA news agency reported that the Committee convened in Ramallah ahead of a central council meeting of the PLO on Sunday.

Abbas has also slammed Trump for threatening to halt aid to the Palestinians in a recent tweet, in which the United States leader claimed he took the issue of Jerusalem "off the table" and accused Palestinians of "no longer willing to talk peace".

He said that the UN Security Council passed 86 resolutions in favor of Palestine, in spite of 43 USA vetoes and 705 UN General Assembly resolutions throughout the global body's history but none were implemented. "On the phone? On television?"

Abbas also said that the Palestinians have rejected a USA request to halt payments to roughly 35,000 families of Palestinians killed and wounded in the conflict with Israel, including suicide bombers and other terrorists. Trump has responded by threatening to cut aid and to reduce USA payments to the U.N.'s Palestinian refugee agency.

Yet, he stressed that it is important to keep the gains made by Palestine, internally and externally, stressing that the Council should come out in support of the peaceful popular resistance, which he said is the best way to end the Israeli occupation.

There were also clashes in the West Bank.
