On Sunday, hours after the IDF confirmed having destroyed the latest terror tunnel that crossed into Israel, IDF Southern Command Maj. The crossing has been closed until further notice.

The army spokesperson credited the discovery and destruction of the tunnel to a combination of "cutting-edge" technology and intelligence.

The military said that it does not intend to bring about an escalation of the situation, but will continue to act against any violation of Israeli sovereignty.

Israel "targeted a terror infrastructure using fighter jets in the southern Rafah region, adjacent to the Egypt-Gaza Strip border", an army statement said.

An IDF general on Sunday said the Israeli military had devised a solution that would see all of Hamas's cross-border tunnels into Israel destroyed. The IDF said the tunnel was used to smuggle weapons and terrorists into both Israel and Egypt.

IDF Spokesman Brig.Gen. Ronen Manelis said that Hamas was still working on the tunnel, which was clearly considered a significant asset by the terrorist organization.

Israeli authorities said the tunnel extended nearly 600 feet into Israeli territory and was built exclusively with the aim of executing terror attacks against Israelis.

The Israeli military has destroyed three cross-border Hamas terror tunnels in recent months using "new and groundbreaking technology", Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus - the head of the IDF Spokesperson's Unit's global media branch - said in a video published on social media on Sunday.

Lt Col Conricus said forces had been monitoring its construction for some time and an imminent attack on Israelis was possible. It reached underneath the Kerem Shalom border crossing and below diesel and gas pipelines into Gaza, penetrating some 180 meters inside Israeli territory.
