  • Search for Missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 Resumes - 4 Years After Disappearance

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the search operations will commence in a new search area of 25,000 square kilometre (sqkm) of the Indian Ocean by mid January. I thank the Malaysian government for not giving up on us and the MH370, and Ocean Infinity for this initiative to use its technology and own expenses to locate the wreckage.

The search for MH370 was suspended in January 2017 after no trace of the plane was found in a 46,332 sq mile zone in a remote part of the southern Indian Ocean.

The Malaysian and American governments have not given up on finding Malaysia Airlines flight 370 which vanished back in 2014.

The agreement was signed by the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) director-general Datuk Seri Azharuddin Abdul Rahman and Ocean Infinity Limited chief executive officer Oliver Plunkett.

The hunt for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 will resume after the government agreed to pay a US exploration company as much as $70 million if it solves modern aviation's biggest mystery.

Several pieces of debris confirmed to have been from the missing aircraft have been found by members of the public on the African coast and islands in the Indian Ocean.

"We came to the conclusion that it is important for us to continue this mission to finally find some answers and closure", he said.

In addition, the Malaysian government agrees to pay 70 million USA dollars if the plane was found beyond the 25,000 square km area recommended by investigators from Australia.

The location of Flight MH370 has become a mystery since the plane carrying 239 people on board disappeared en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur on March 8, 2014.

He said the search will include 65 crew on board and two Royal Malaysian Navy personnel as the Malaysian government's representatives.

The underwater recovery effort was called off back in January 2017 after nearly three years of searching.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau said in its final report in October that it was "inconceivable" for a large commercial aircraft to vanish in the modern era, but they now had a better understanding of where it might be.

"In the past, we only had one underwater search vehicle for the search operations but with the technology we have at hand, we hope we can identify the wreckage as soon as possible", he told the media at the press conference.
