  • John Dickerson replaces Charlie Rose on 'CBS This Morning'

John Dickerson, 49, will join "CBS This Morning" as a co-host on Wednesday, taking the hot seat alongside co-stars Gayle King and Norah O'Donnell, the network announced.

In late November, The Washington Post published a report in which eight women accused Rose of sexual harassment, including groping, nudity, and vulgar phone calls.

In response to the stories, CBS severed ties with Rose, who also contributed to the network's long-running newsmagazine 60 Minutes, with PBS dropping his eponymous interview show.

Dickerson, now host of the long-running Sunday public affairs show "Face the Nation", will "transition off" that program in the coming weeks, then a successor will be named, according to CBS. In 2015, he was named host of "Face the Nation", succeeding its legendary host and anchor, Bob Schieffer.

It was announced Tuesday by David Rhodes, president of CBS News.

John Dickerson with his new "CBS This Morning" co-hosts, Gayle King, left, and Norah O'Donnell. "Colleagues, newsmakers, and peers all appreciate the depth and context John Dickerson brings to every discussion of the day's events-together with his co-hosts he will project our best values on every broadcast".

Dickerson is relocating to NY from Washington, D.C., full time.

He had been political director for CBS News since 2011, and an on-air political analyst for CBS News since 2009. Dickerson has been a reporter in Washington since 1995, covering the White House, Congress and economics. CBS appointed Dickerson on the sixth anniversary of the morning show, which is in third place in the morning ratings but has made inroads with a newsy approach. Most recently, he was Slate Magazine's chief political correspondent winning the Ford Prize for Distinguished Reporting on the Presidency. "I've worked alongside John for nearly 20 years and this is a great way to continue our mission of putting the news back in the morning".

USA TODAY has contacted representatives from CBS This Morning for comment. He will continue hosting Face the Nation at least through the weekend as Rhodes and executive producer Mary Hager determine what's next for the Sunday show.
