  • I'll Sign Any Immigration Bill Congress Sends Me

U.S. President Donald Trump is meeting Tuesday with key lawmakers on immigration policies, but no breakthrough appeared imminent on how to protect hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from being deported. But in exchange, Trump wants a number of immigration-related measures, including increased security to thwart more illegal immigration along the southern US border with Mexico by constructing a wall he vowed during his 2016 presidential campaign would be built and paid for by Mexico.

Their bill provides a way to enact DACA through legislation instead of as an Obama Administration order that Trump declined to renew in September, giving DACA its current March end date.

"Yes, it has to be", Trump said when asked on whether funding for his border wall would have to be part of any agreement.

"Democrats are for security at the border", Hoyer told Trump during the meeting. "And if there's other elements that have to be included in a broader deal to get signed into law, this is a foundation for that conversation". "If they come to me with things I'm not in love with, I'm gonna do it".

Top congressional leaders did not attend the hour-long meeting. He added, however, that both parties should pass a "bill of love" to ensure Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program recipients continue to be protected, while also ensuring national security.

Congressional leaders met with Trump at the White House last Thursday, but Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said the president's call for a wall to be part of the deal may have poisoned the well. "Because I respect them". Those issues include efforts to nix some forms of legal immigration such as family reunification, called "chain migration" by Trump and other opponents, and the green card diversity lottery system.

"If we don't fight like hell on this, some people in our base are going to say, 'Why bother?'" said Frank Sharry, executive director of America's Voice, a leading pro-immigration advocacy group.

Trump has long said he would not protect Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) participants - of which there are almost 800,000 who were brought to the United States illegal as children - from deportation without ending so-called chain migration, guidelines that allow people in the United States to bring in family members from overseas, and the visa lottery system, a program that distributes around 50,000 visas to countries where there is a low rate of immigration to the US. If you honestly believe that Mexico is somehow going to pay for this wall, or that this wall is somehow going to stop illegal immigration, or fix any immigration problems we may have, then you personally are somehow even dumber than Donald Trump. It will save a couple minutes or a few seconds. "Whatever it includes to make the border secure I am going to be for". "It must end the visa lottery", Mr Trump said.

"R$3 ight now, the Democrats are holding that deal hostage for a DACA negotiation".
