For those unfamiliar with the AT&T story, The Information reported that the U.S. Senate and House intelligence committees sent letters to the FCC in December alleging Huawei was a security threat. Unfortunately, Huawei has come forward and in its own words, confirms that it will not be selling carrier-branded phones in the U.S.

Rumors have been brewing for some time now that Chinese phone maker Huawei will officially make its Mate 10 Pro flagship available in the United States through US carriers.

The news is a huge blow to Huawei, now the third largest smartphone maker in the world after Apple and Samsung, and will roll back the company's plan to establish a larger presence in the United States starting this year.

"We remain committed in this market now and in the future. USA customers need a better choice, and as a leader in technology and innovation, Huawei is prepared to fill this need". The move could have helped Huawei increase its market share in the U.S.

The company has been trying to penetrate the USA market for years now and its success hinges on selling its phones through carriers.

Huawei had planned several announcements for the CES event this week, including speculation that it was ready to reveal a sales tie-in with AT&T, according to the earlier reports.

The Mate 10 Pro could have been the first flagship device from the company to be available through network operators in the US.

For now, part of Huawei's plan is to reach out to USA consumers using alternative channels such as online and physical retail stores. The latter's mobile devices will not sell through a USA telco anytime soon, but Android fans need not fret.

Huawei has continually denied allegations that it spies for China.
