Price at the pump continues to rise

  • Consumers should expect about a fiev cents per litre increase in gas prices in 2018 according to one petroleum analyst

Prices at the pump in the state of Georgia sit at around $2.36 a gallon, more than 10 cents higher than this time a year ago. Last week, the average was $2.20 in Lauderdale County and $2.17 in Colbert County, according to the survey.

Including the change in gas prices in Louisiana during the past week, prices yesterday were 10.4 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 1.6 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

That's four cents above the national average of $2.49 per gallon.

"As unseasonable cold finally breaks across the country, what may not break as quickly is the unseasonably high gas prices", said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy.

Gas prices have ticked up two cents per gallon in Rhode Island.

Jackson- $2.20/g, up 2.5 cents per gallon from last week's $2.18/g.

GasBuddy and AAA also agree that prices are poised for a seasonal slide, at least for the spring.

Both GasBuddy and AAA report that prices remain elevated because of strong oil prices.

Gas prices were up across the Northeast, AAA said. "Unfortunately, springtime is as a springboard for prices at the pump, and we may see a 40 to 50 cent jump by the summer". A year ago, the state average was $2.53. He does see a short-lived drop in prices in late January, but expects prices to rise again after Valentine's Day.
