  • Iranian tanker burns spills oil after collision off China‚Äôs coast

An Iranian oil tanker carrying gas condensate collided with a Chinese cargo ship and exploded in the eastern coasts of China, Kasra Nouri, spokesman for the Iranian oil ministry, said January 7.

The Chinese Transport Ministry says 32 people, a lot of them Iranians, are missing from an oil tanker that collided with a cargo ship off the east coast of China.

Thirty-two people are missing after an oil tanker and a cargo ship collided off China's east coast on Saturday evening.

State media reports that China dispatched several vessels to search for and rescue crew members as the vessel burned. The ministry said oil spilled into the sea, but did not specify the area of contamination.

It was sailing from Iran to South Korea, carrying 136,000 tonnes of condensate, an ultra light crude.

The size of the oil slick spilling from the Sanchi is not now known.

The official said the tanker had been rented by a South Korean company and was on its way to South Korea.

South Korea's coast guard has sent a ship and an airplane to assist the search effort.

The tanker was still ablaze on Sunday, with images broadcast by state television channel CCTV showing the ship in the grip of an intense fire, enveloped in clouds of black smoke.

"We can not say all of them have died, because rescue teams are there and providing services". All 21 members of the Chinese freighter's crew, all of which who are Chinese nationals, have been rescued.

CF Crystal, which was built in 2011, suffered "non-critical" damage, China's transport ministry said.

There was a collision involving an NITC-operated supertanker in the Singapore Strait in August 2016, but there was no loss of life or pollution.
