British number two Kyle Edmund had an injury scare as he pushed world number three Grigor Dimitrov to three sets in the quarter-finals of the Brisbane International.

The in-form defending champion helped Edmund back to his chair and consigned him to a 6-3 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 defeat following a short break while his opponent received treatment.

Don't try that at home, kids.

Dimitrov held his serve to go to 5-4 and then broke Edmund to seal the win 6-3, 6-7 (3/7), 6-4. I know the feeling.

Dimitrov came close to breaking Edmund in the ninth game of the second set, but the Briton defended two break points to stay in the match, and won the tie-breaker to live to fight in a deciding set.

Dimitrov has received plenty of praise from tennis fans for his reaction to Edmund's injury.

Asked about his lethargic start, Kyrgios said: "As bad as it is to say, it's kind of like a tap - I can turn it on when I want to". "I've seen this too many times".

"But if a boxer puts his gloves down in a boxing ring, I wouldn't really call it tanking so it's just a strategy and obviously it worked again today".

Dimitrov will now play mercurial Australian Nick Kyrgios in a blockbuster semi-final.

The 22-year-old has been left to carry the UK's hopes this summer after a hip problem dashed Andy Murray's hopes of playing in the Australian Open.

Dimitrov, who ended previous year on a high note by winning the ATP Finals in London, saved two match points to beat John Millman in the Queenslander's home city on Thursday and the powerful Bulgarian will attempt to end another Australian's challenge when he faces Kyrgios on Saturday.
