Bannon praises Trump's son in statement

Miller said Tapper was being "condescending" and described CNN's coverage of the Trump administration as "hysterical" and "toxic" when Tapper asked about whether Trump was mentally fit to serve in the White House.

Throughout the interview, Miller repeatedly praised Trump's political prowess, knocking the "so-called political geniuses in Washington" who didn't predict the populist Republican's ascent.

CNN's Jake Tapper on Sunday morning made headlines of his own after he cut off White House senior policy advisor Stephen Miller during a contentious interview. "Now I have to put up with a Fake Book, written by a totally discredited author", he tweeted.

About halfway through the interview, things really got heated as Miller continued to dodge Tapper's questions.

But Bannon says his description was aimed at former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, not Trump's son.

Miller replied that Bannon's role "has been greatly exaggerated, whereas the president hasn't gotten the due that he deserves". CNN host Jake Tapper rebutted any suggestion that Trump is a political genius by pointing out that Trump's approval ratings are in the 30s.

"No, the viewers are entitled to have three [minutes] of the truth", Mr. Miller said.

During the interview, Miller characterized the new book about the Trump administration, "Fire and Fury, " which was released January 5, as "a work of very poorly written fiction".

Wolff defended his work on Friday, insisting he spoke with Trump on the record and called the president "a man who has less credibility than, perhaps, anyone who has ever walked on earth".

British Prime Minister Theresa May dismissed concerns about Mr Trump's mental state after the book's publication, saying the President would still be visiting the United Kingdom in the future.

Meanwhile, Trump's top policy adviser, on Sunday (Monday NZ Time) eviscerated Bannon over comments attributed to him in a new book, calling him an "angry, vindictive person" whose "grotesque comments are so out of touch with reality".

Miller tried to protest, but Tapper quickly said, 'Thank you Stephen.' The camera panned away from the White House aide as Tapper started reading from the teleprompter, readying his audience the next segment.

My support is also unwavering for the president and his agenda - as I have shown daily in my national radio broadcasts, on the pages of Breitbart News and in speeches and appearances from Tokyo and Hong Kong to Arizona and Alabama. Ronald Reagan had the same problem and handled it well. Tapper responded that that "wasn't true", and he had a lot of questions about immigration, and accused Miller of "filibustering".

When Tapper returned from commercial break, the journalist began the second part of his show by saying, 'Welcome back to State of the Union and planet Earth'.
