  • Kabul blast: US condemns attack, vows to 'work closely' with Afghanistan to hunt down terrorists

At least 40 people were killed and dozens more wounded in a suicide attack on Tebyan center in Pule Sokhtia area of Kabul on Thursday morning, health officials confirmed.

However, no-one has taken responsibility for the latest attack that killed so many people.

Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish said an unknown number of suicide attackers set off an explosion outside the center before carrying out an attack inside.

August 25: 20 people killed in an attack on a Shiite mosque, for which ISIS claims responsibility.

The Islamic State-claimed attack on the center, which also houses the Afghan Voice news agency, left 40 people dead and 30 others wounded.

US Ambassador to Afghanistan John R. Bass said: "The United States continues to stand with all Afghans in their pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity".

He said one reporter at the agency had been killed and one injured.

An Afghan official says a roadside mine has exploded, killing six children in northern Balkh province.

The attack, on 38th anniversary of the Soviet invasion, occurred during a panel discussion at the Tabian Social and Cultural Centre - with much of the crowd comprised of students and journalists, Reuters reported.

That attack targeted an office of the National Directorate of Security, Rahimi said, near the US Embassy and other diplomatic missions.

President Ashraf Ghani's spokesperson condemned the "unpardonable" crime, and his office has ordered a full investigation into the attack.

He called them attacks as against Islam and "all human values".

Sayed Abbas Hussaini, a journalist at the agency, said there appeared to have been more than one explosion during the attack, following an initial blast at the entrance to the compound.

Afghanistan has the highest number of mine victims in the world, which along with other roadside bombs kill or wound an estimated 140 people every month.
