According to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Davis was at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Tuesday when she suffered a massive stroke. The station reported Davis suffered a stroke and was rushed to the hospital.

Davis was on her way to San Antonio, Texas to attend her father's funeral.

Davis, 62, was an anchor at WGCL-TV for almost a year after spending 26 years at WAGA-TV, the newspaper said.

"Her family is asking for privacy at this hard time".

Atlanta's current mayor, Kasim Reed, recently tweeted out his condolences to her family members in lieu of the tragic news, as well as the loss of one of Atlanta's most recognizable television figures.


Davis, a popular face in Atlanta news, wasn't shy about sharing her story of overcoming the odds. We thought she retired then she fought her way through to get back to doing what she loved. Thursday morning, her name was trending nationally on Twitter.

Other details about her death are not clear. "Her passion for local news is unmatched", said CBS46 news director Frank Volpicella, at the time of her joining the network in 2016.

Colleagues expressed sadness about the news on Twitter.

'I wanted to believe that there was still a way they could help me control it, ' she said. She will be missed by many. 'She will be remembered for that, for having the strength to persevere and overcome'.

Amanda Davis had been a staple in Atlanta journalism for decades. She had talked publicly about her struggles with alcohol and depression after her third arrest on DUI charges.
